The Great American Farmers Market 2025
Black Rock Farm attending the Great American Farmers Market in Washington, DC on the National Mall
Highland Cows on the National Mall in Washington DC
We’re still buzzing after bringing two of our Highland cows to the first-ever Great American Farmers Market on the National Mall and doing it at just our second mobile event ever. Tractor Supply Company invited us to set up alongside them, and honestly, we could hardly believe we were there, representing a small Maryland farm on such an iconic stage.
From the moment we arrived, our hearts were full. Our cows drew a steady stream of curious families and visitors, we are taking 20-30minute lines to meet John and Wayne. It was a joy to watch them interact with people, answer questions, and pose for photos. They were front and center among standout highlights like golden tractors, live DJ sets, storytelling hubs, and even goat yoga.
It felt like our herd had become an unexpected star attraction and we truly underestimated the volume of people who had never seen a cow in person before. How incredible that we could provide that opportunity?
For us, this was more than a fun day—it was a real milestone. We’re used to hosting Highland Hangout Sessions, seasonal gatherings, and workshops right here in our small town of Myersville, Maryland but this was so much more. Stepping onto the National Mall was a whole new level—and a clear sign that our mobile events can take our farm’s story far beyond our fields. The United States Secretary of Agriculture even popped in to pet the cows, thanks Secretary Rollins!
A huge thank-you to Tractor Supply for giving us this opportunity. Their booth wasn’t just a place for games or giveaways—it became a place where people connected with agriculture, with rural life, and with our cows. That the event was free and open to the public meant so many got to experience what Highlands are all about.
