Students Visit for Virtual Field Trip with K12

Virtual Field Trip at Black Rock Farm

April 30th, 2025 | Virtual Field Trip at Black Rock Farm with K12 Student

This past week, Black Rock Farm had the honor of hosting a virtual field trip for students across the country through a special partnership with K12 Student—an online education platform that connects young learners with real-world experiences beyond the classroom. We had over 490 students register and 350 of them attend LIVE!!

— Teaching almost 500 students about cows!?!?! How cool is that!?!?!

We welcomed students to our farm (virtually!) to share a behind-the-scenes look at life on a working farm, introduce them to our beloved Highland cows, and talk about how we care for the land and animals here in Maryland. Students tuned in from their homes and classrooms to learn about our daily farm routines, what it takes to care for cattle, and all about what makes Highland cows so unique (besides the fact that they are super cute)!

The highlight of the event? Our Highland cows stole the show— John was our main star but everyone also loved baby Bruno! Being able to stream live from the barn was SO cool! We were able to take our cameras and zoom in on the cow hooves as we talked about feet and even on the hair to show just how thick their coat truly is. It was a joy to see how excited the students were to meet the animals and ask thoughtful questions about farm life.

— I was even stumped by one student’s question who asked if cows could get cavities!

We’re incredibly grateful to K12 Student for making this connection possible and for creating opportunities like this that bring agriculture into the hearts and minds of young learners. We seriously are amazed every day by the incredible people that we have met since opening our barn doors and sharing our love for the cows!
